Description: The team will arrive in Nairobi, Kenya on February 10th. where our host, Patrick Murunga will meet us at the airport and escort the team to a nearby Guest House. We will spend the night at the guest house and prepare for an early morning departure on the first leg of our journey north to the Turkana Region of Northern Kenya. We will travel by van and Lori approximately eight hours to Kitale. Kitale is a modest size town with a large outdoor market and is the jumping off point for travelers and merchants heading to the sparsely populated regions of Turkana and beyond. As we depart the hustle and bustle of Nairobi we follow along a high plateau with dramatic views of the Rift Valley to our left, home to the Masai and rich in wildlife. In Kitale we will spend a day and two nights organizing and repacking supplies as well as providing medical care and education to a local orphanage. From Kitale we will begin the long drive over dirt roads north to Lokichar. Lokichar is a small town and the home of one of our hosts, Pastor Joseph. We will be staying in a small guest house in Lokichar. We will organize and hold day long medical clinics for the local population and people traveling from outlying villages. We will also focus, as time permits, on other needs in the area. This will include education, water sanitation, local medical resources, education for local government health workers and identifying ways to help improve health and wellness in the community. We will be providing follow up on patients seen last year and throughout the week on patients we treat. At the close of our clinic week we will travel back to Kitale where we will spend one night and then on to the Masai Mara for our final two nights in Kenya where we will take time to debrief and enjoy the Abundant Kenyan wildlife at the Masai Mara National Game Reserve. The team will be staying at a tent camp in the Mara. This team is rated as an Extreme Team! (Visit our website description of team ratings: LINK HERE! ) Amount of in-country travel: Extensive: There will be several days of heavy ground travel via Vans and a Lori over bumpy dirt roads to travel from Nairobi to and from the Turkana Region. There will be locations where the team will be walking two to three miles to access a village site for clinic. Sleeping Arrangements: Team members will sleep in guest houses and will likely be on a mat on the floor. It is recommended that team members bring along a sleeping bag and a thermalite pad. Running Water/Electricity: Running water and electricity will not be readily available during this trip. You will have access on occasion but it is not reliable or guaranteed. Physical Requirements: Team members will need to be in good to excellent physical condition and it will be necessary to carry bags and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs at times. You may be hiking up to two or three miles to access some village locations. Frequently Asked Questions! What is included in the trip price?
